Course Outline
Do you work in the child care industry or are you a parent/grandparent/friend who cares for children at home? Would you know what to do in an emergency situation?
First aid skills is an asset no person should be without. While it is a legal requirement to have first aid trained staff on site at childcare workplaces it is also a valuable skill to have at home and with your family.
This course provides practical training for workers within an education and care setting to respond to first aid emergencies in line with legal and workplace requirements, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
Early response and action is key especially when it come to the kids in our care, every second counts. In this course you will learn the critical skills to identify illness or injury, access emergency services, safely provide first aid treatment using action plans and equipment and use resources to provide first aid to:
-provide quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) where every beat counts
-get hands on and learn to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
-administer an adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis (trainer pen of course)
-administer asthma medication effectively
-assist someone who is choking using real choking manikins
-use appropriate immobilisation techniques for envenomation
-learn how not to get tangled up in a triangular bandage and use it properly to immobilise or support limbs
-manage sprains and strains
-treat non-life-threatening bleeding and shock
You will learn basic anatomy, physiology and the differences between adults, children and infants relating to CPR, managing an infant or child with an acute illness, or who requires an immediate ambulance response and conveying incident details to parents, caregivers and emergency services.
The course covers completing incident documentation and debriefing for improvement of response, recognising psychological impacts, talking with children about their emotions and seeking help as required.

Course Details
Online Training – At home in your own time
Self paced online training and theory assessment questions via Training Desk.
You will be able to start the training package, leave and then come back to where you left off as many times as you like.
Online training must be completed PRIOR to face to face session. All videos must be watched completely.
Face to Face Assessment – We come to you!
2 hours face to face practical session involving training refresher and assessments.
Please note there is a physical component to the assessment where participants are required to kneel to perform CPR on an adult manikin placed on the ground. This cannot be modified.

Assessment Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
Participants undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written (online) and practical assessment tasks.
Practical assessment includes demonstration of the following tasks
–Perform CPR on an infant manikin
-Perform CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor
-Follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator
-Complete an incident report form
-Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
-Manage a casualty with asthma
-Mange a choking casualty
-Manage a casualty with a non-life-threatening bleed and shock
-Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
-Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
-Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
-Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/funnel-web spider bite)

Nationally Recognised Certificate
With successful completion of this course you will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate for:
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resusctiation
HLTAID010 Provide Basic Life Support
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
HLTAID012 Proved First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
Industry standards reccomended that renewal for this course is undertaken every 3 years and HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation be renewed annually (1 year) to maintain all the above certificates.

DHHS social distancing guidelines will be enforced and each person must stay at least 1.5m away from other people
Personal Protective Equiement (PPE)
Face coverings must be worn during class as well as when traveling to or from a training session.
Hand sanitiser and disposable gloves will be provided and must be used during practical assessments.
Modified Practical Assessments
No mouth to manikin breaths during CPR assessment. Breaths as simulated.
Training Pack
Each participant is provided an individual "training pack" which includes disposable gloves, alcohol wipes and bandages for the practical first aid assessment. These are single use and not re-used.
Individual training equipment (such as manikins etc.) will be provided for each participant to use during the practical assessment.
Cleaning of Training Equipment
All training manikins, epipens, asthma inhailers and spacers are cleaned thoroughly with hospital grade disinfectant before and after training.
Decreased group sizes and training time
Group sizes are now limited depending on the area available to train in.
Majority of training has been moved to online via Training Desk and face to face time has been reduced to assessment only.
